Pricing and licensing
Bedrock is a free local app with one paid subscription. The free tier is a complete single-project workspace; Bedrock Pro unlocks the professional desktop workflow and an optional mobile companion with sync. There is exactly one thing to buy.
A lapse never touches your files: if a subscription ends, the app falls back to the free tier — your markdown stays on disk, readable by any editor.
Free — one project, local, offline
Everything you need to run a single workspace well, with no account and no network:
- One workspace / project
- The three-pane editor and the typed library
- All six themes
- Live filesystem sync
- Basic version history — snapshots and restore
- The ⌘K command palette and full-text search
- New-file templates
The free tier is meant to feel finished, not crippled. Within one project, nothing nags.
Pro — the subscription
One subscription, billed monthly or annually — $8 / month or $80 / year (annual saves ~2 months). It unlocks everything:
Desktop power features
- Unlimited projects / workspaces
- Context Composer — assemble, save, and token-budget context bundles
- Prompt running — run prompts against your docs through your own local CLI (Bedrock holds no API keys and runs no inference)
- Graph view, word-level diffs + deep git timeline, backlinks, and plugins
Mobile companion + sync — an optional toggle, off by default
- Capture ideas, bugs, tasks, features, and releases from your phone
- Read your docs on the go
- An end-to-end-encrypted relay keeps phone and desktop in step
Sync is included in Pro at no extra charge — turn it on from Settings → License when you want it. A Pro user who never enables it still gets the full desktop feature set.
Subscribing and activating
- Choose monthly or annual at trybedrock.de, or from Settings → License in the app.
- You’ll get a license key by email and on the confirmation page.
- In Bedrock, open Settings → License, paste your key under Have a license key? and click Activate.
Settings → License then shows your Pro status and renewal date, with a Manage billing link (Stripe Customer Portal) and a sync toggle. You can deactivate a device to free its activation slot for another machine.
What this means for your data
Bedrock is offline-first. The free tier never touches the network at all. For Pro, the only licensing calls are checkout and a light periodic validation of your subscription — never your documents, never analytics. The mobile + sync service is opt-in and Pro-only; when on, the relay only ever holds encrypted blobs, never your plaintext. If a subscription lapses, the app returns to the free tier and never locks your files. See Privacy and your data.
